Report of one day workshop on Fly Ash Utilization in Coal & Mining Sector held on 29.08.2012

 

A one day interactive workshop, as a part of Base Line Document project, awarded to CMPDI by Ministry of Science & Technology, Govt. of India, was held in Koyal hall of CMPDI on 29.08.2012. This workshop was jointly organized by Environment dept. of CMPDI in association with Dept. of Science & Technology, GOI & Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad (Dept. of Environmental Science & Engineering).

 

Chief Guest of Workshop was Sri. A.K.Debnath, Director (T) P&D, CMPDI and Guest of honour were Dr. Vimal Kumar, Head Fly Ash Unit, Dept. of Science & Technology, Sri. S.J.Sibal, former Director General, DGMS & Prof. Gurdeep Singh of ISM along with the Director (T)s, CVO, R.D, R.I-III, & TS to CMD, CMPDI.

 

 

Sri. J.K.Goel, GM (Env), CMPDI appraised the participants about the objective & the progress of the project through power point presentation & the Workshop was conducted jointly by Sri V.K.Pandey & Dr. Vinita Arora.

 

 

Workshop was well attended by the galaxy of experts which included policy makers, regulators, planners & mine operators mainly, Sri. Purohit, Regional Controller, IBM, Ranchi region, Sri Mihir Choudhury, Dy.Director, DGMS, Ranchi region, Sri. S. K. Jha, JSPCB, Ranchi, Sri G.V.Reddy, GM (R&D), SCCL, Sri S.Ram Mohan, Chief Manager, NLC, Sri K. Lakshminarayan, CGWB, Ranchi, Sri M. Chaubey, DGM & Head of Env. Dept., RDCIS, SAIL, Ranchi, Sri A.P.Singh, Sr.Manager (Env.), Adani Power, Sri B.S.Guru, Dy.Manager(EMD), JSPL, Sri Hemant Sharma, Associate General Manager(Mines) Vedanta-HZL, Prof. I.Roy, BIT, Mesra, Ranchi & team of TA/TF group of ISM. Head of dept. of Open cast, Under Ground, Exploration also actively participated as delegates.

 

 

 

Chief Guest including the Guest of Honours and dignitaries concluded that that Fly Ash disposal is a national cause of concern and efforts for its disposal in environment friendly manner must be escalated. It has also been understood that fly ash is a resource material & mining sector offers a good opportunity for Fly Ash disposal in the form mine voids backfilling, in external dumps mixed with over burden, stowing material in underground mines, sub base material in haul road & other road construction, bricks for isolation stoppings, roof supports etc. The experts and the delegates at the same time agreed that the disposal in the mining (Open cast or underground) should only be after ascertaining the environmental & safety aspect on case to case basis.

 

 

 

The day long Workshop came to an end with vote of thanks by Professor Gurdeep Singh of ISM, Dhanbad.
