Benefits
Some ecological aspects of land reclamation in Coalfield 1.Successional trend of plant species on OB dumps.

2.Study of plant diversity and productivity on OB dumps.

3.Calculation of nutrient status of OB dumps.

4.Effects of amendments like topsoil, sawdust, and hay material on plant growth.
1. The Overburden samples were collected from different age groups of overburden dumps in Jharia coafields

2. Simultaneously, control samples were collected from barren dumps to compare the rate of nutrient accumulation due to vegetation growth
Vegetataion is dominated by mostly grass species. Plant diversity is not high correlated with the age of dumps because of heterogenous nature of spoil materials. In laboratory pot-experiment, subabul (Leucaenia leucocephala) showed highest growth response than Peltaphorum, Cassia siamea The experiences gained from this investigation was used to start up biological reclamation work and R & D.
