| Comparison of sediment yield in highly erodable watershed one having mining area and the other having no mining area in Damodar-Barakar Catchment. | 1. To evaluate and study the sediment yield
from a micro-watershed having mining area under operation. 2. To evaluate and study the sediments yield from a micro watershed having no mining areas 3. To evaluate the run-off rate from the above two types of watershed. 4. To test the validity of existing mathematical model for sediments production and run-off in the upper Damodar vally area. |
1. Literature review. 2. Collection of data with respect to Rain Fall dataWaterlevel Management dataDischarge data using floatSediment data 3. Computation of run-off and sediment yield of watersheds 4. Comparison of computed results with respect to run-off and sediment yield of two watersheds |
1. From the study, it is observed that the
sediments production rate for a coal mining watershed is almost 2.2 times
that of a non-mining watershed. 2. The run -off is more in the mining areas as compared to non-mining areas. 3. the mining area though under forest , still the sediment production and run-off is quite considerable. 4. the statically optical mathematical model does not hold good in the case of watershed having mining areas. 5. the model however holds good with a limited error in case of watershed having no mining areas. |
1. The study gave ideas as to how a mining
area differ in sediments production to that of a non-mining areas. 2. The study also tested validity of the two equations developed for Damodar Valley areas for the watershed under discussion. 3. The study also suggested the need for the development of reasonably accurate technique for production of run-off and sediment yield from coal mining watersheds. 4. The study also showed that the landuse pattern of any watershed has a greater role to play in sediments production |
