IIT(ISM) ENVIS Center at the Department of Environmental Science & Engineering, IIT(ISM) Dhanbad organized a three-days Online Course on "Python for Handling Large Geo-spatial Data" for B.Sc., M.Sc. B.Tech, M.Tech students & research scholars from 30th May 2022 to 01st June 2022. The goal of this course was to provide the context and the importance of geospatial (big) data in climate studies. This course contained downloading, pre-processing, analyzing, and visualizing the multidimensional large climate dataset, specifically using python. Total 91 participants registered for the training programme from institutes all over India and abroad also. Institutes like IIT Madras, IIT Ropar, IISc, BHU, Manipal University, Lucknow University, Patna University, Sambalpur University, Pondicherry University, AcSIR, CSIR-NEERI, NIT Warangal, Centre of Space Techniques, Algeria and IIT(ISM) Dhanbad, to name a few from where registered students belong.
At the outset of the inaugural ceremony on 30th May 2022, Prof. Sheeja Jagadevan, Associate Professor, Department of Environmental Science & Engineering & Co-coordinator, IIT(ISM) ENVIS Centre welcomed the Chief Guest Prof. Rajiv Shekhar, Director, IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, Guest of Honour Prof. Sagar Pal, Associate Dean, Research Infrastructure (Research & Development) & Prof. Ravi Kumar Gangwar, Associate Dean, Sponsored Research & Industrial Consultancy, (Research & Development), IIT(ISM), Dhanbad, Faculty Members, eminent guests, dignitaries, students and participants. With her welcome address. Prof. Jagadevan also briefed about the 3 days online training programme and gave a brief introduction of the course coordinator Prof. Vittal H., Assistant Professor, Environmental Science & Engineering, IIT(ISM) Dhanbad.
Prof. Alok Sinha, Head of the Department (Acting), Environmental Science & Engineering, IIT(ISM) Dhanbad and Coordinator, IIT(ISM) ENVIS Centre welcomed all the dignitaries and participants and briefed about the Department of ESE and IIT(ISM) ENVIS Centre.
At the last day of the 3 days online training programme, Prof. Anshumali, Head of Dept. of ESE, IIT(ISM) Dhanbad & Coordinator, IIT(ISM) ENVIS Centre in his address during the valedictory session highlighted the importance of this course in handling of big data in research by using python and expressed his thanks to Prof. Vittal H, Assistant Professor, Environmental Science & Engineering, IIT(ISM) Dhanbad and IIT(ISM) ENVIS team for organizing such an event successfully. Prof. Anshumali also convey his special thanks to the participants, faculty members and students of department.
