Matka Plantation Recharge Technique (MPRT), an initiative taken by EIACP (PC-RP), Department of Environmental Science & Engineering, IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, under the Mission LiFE activity, to carry out plantation using traditional ground water recharge technique, has proved successful as the Tectona seedling of 20 centimetre height planted in the Experimental Garden of Department of ESE on 23.06.2023, using the Matka Plantation Recharge Technique (MPRT). After 214 days on 23.01.2024 it was observed that the Tectona Seedling has now grown up to a 3 meter plant within a span of seven months.

The stats of the plant were measured by Prof Anshumali, Head, Department of Environmental Science and Engineering, and Coordinator IIT (ISM) EICAP (PC-RP) and Mr. Bishwajit Das, Information Officer, IIT(ISM) EIACP (PC-RP) on 25.09.2023 (after 94 days), on 21.11.2023 (after 151 days), on 03.01.2024 (after 194 days) and on 23.01.2024 (after 214 days).

Prof Anshumali, Head, Department of Environmental Science and Engineering, and Coordinator EICAP (PC-RP) said, “MPRT is a nature-based solution to environmental problems especially restoration of mined out areas, river fronts, degraded forest land, hilly terrains, agroforestry in rainfed areas etc. The MPRT is a very low-cost technique to achieve, Reduction Emission from Deforestation Degradation in Developing Countries (REDD +) and Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) commitments made by Government of India”.
