Mission LiFE Awareness Programme organized by IIT(ISM) EIACP (PC-RP) in association with BHU Alumni (Dhanbad-Asansol Chapter) during one-day seminar-cum-annual meet, held on 14.01.2024

As a part of the Mission LiFE activities, IIT (ISM) EIACP (PC-RP) in association with BHU Alumni (Dhanbad-Asansol Chapter), organized a One day seminar-cum-annual meet entitled "वैश्विक पर्यावरण प्रबंधन और संरक्षण पर पं. मदन मोहन मालवीय जी के दृष्टिकोण," on 14.01.2024. A total of 250 participants, including students, research scholars, and eminent guests from various institutions and organizations, along with their families, attended the event and actively participated in the program. The participants were sensitized about the seven themes of Mission LiFE and were motivated to embrace sustainable practices in their lifestyles through a series of four keynote lectures delivered during this one-day seminar-cum-annual meet followed by a curltural program.

 

At the commencement of the program, all the participants paid homage with floral tribute to eminent freedom fighter, former Congressman, Indian scholar and educational reformer Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya. It was then followed by inauguration of the One day seminar-cum-annual meet program with lamp lightning ceremony by Chief Guest, Dr. T. N. Singh, Former Director CSIR-CIMFR, Dhanbad. Other dignitaries present were, Guest of Honour, Shri T. K. Rai, Chief General Manager, Ramnagar and Tasra Project, SAIL, Shri R. C. Mahapatra, General Manager, Jhanjhara Area, ECL & Chairman, BHU Alumni Association (Dhanbad-Asansol Chapter) along with Dr. Abhay Kr. Singh, Chief Scientist, CSIR-CIMFR Dhanbad & Secretary, BHU Alumni Association (Dhanbad-Asansol Chapter), Prof. Pramod Pathak, Retd. Professor from Dept. of Management Studies, IIT (ISM), Dhanbad, Dr. T. B. Singh, Scientist, CSIR-CIMFR Dhanbad and Prof. Anshumali, HOD, Dept. of ESE & Coordinator, EIACP (PC-RP), IIT(ISM) Dhanbad.

 

In his opening remarks, Dr. T. B. Singh extended a cordial welcome to all the dignitaries, esteemed guests, and participants of the one-day seminar-cum-annual meet entitled "वैश्विक पर्यावरण प्रबंधन और संरक्षण पर पं. मदन मोहन मालवीय जी के दृष्टिकोण". The event, organized by IIT(ISM) EIACP (PC-RP) in association with BHU Alumni (Dhanbad-Asansol Chapter), was then officially opened for the enlightening keynote lectures.

 

Keynote Lecture by Prof. Pramod Pathak, Retired Professor from the Department of Management Studies, IIT (ISM), Dhanbad:

Invited keynote speaker, Prof. Pramod Pathak, discussed the pressing environmental issues in today's world, stemming from human activities and intricately linked to human mental well-being. He emphasized the role of ethical consciousness in resolving these issues, drawing inspiration from Malaviya ji, who he said was a pragmatic environmentalist with practical approach. Prof. Pathak highlighted the importance of conservation of trees or forests which is indispensable for the environment, citing BHU's exemplary tree management model.

 

Keynote Lecture by Guest of Honour Dr. T. K. Rai, Chief General Manager, Ramnagar and Tasra Project, SAIL:

Invited Keynote Speaker Dr. T. K. Rai, acknowledged BHU's role in nurturing productive individuals. Dr. Rai in his keynote lecture stressed that carbon emissions is a commitment that we must uphold. Dr. Rai said that while India's per capita carbon emissions are notably lower than those of the US and many European countries, our nation is at the forefront of the movement to reduce carbon emissions. Dr. Rai further added that it is essential to avoid solely blaming the mining industry, as this is a complex issue with various contributing factors. Dr. Rai talked about implementing an effective and systematic management policy that can significantly mitigate the environmental impact of mining activities and as a responsible citizens, it is our moral duty to actively contribute to the preservation of our environment.

 

Keynote Lecture by Chief Guest Dr. T. N. Singh, Former Director CSIR-CIMFR, Dhanbad:

The invited keynote speaker, Dr. T. N. Singh, in his keynote lecture said that, since 1980, everyone has become an expert in our environment. Dr. Singh highlighted Three key points:

(1)  Our students should follow the principles of Sanatan Dharma. They should take the lead based on its strength.

(2)  Education should be based on the foundation of ancient culture.

(3)  Students should become competent and lead India towards becoming a global guru.

Dr. Singh underlined the potential of a pure and pollution-free environment can give rise to a capable and conscious generation. He underscored how Malviya ji implemented this vision during the establishment of BHU, emphasizing that all 70,000 trees in the BHU area not only remain intact but have actually multiplied over time. Concluding his keynote lecture, Dr. Singh stated, "Adhering to Indian culture is the precise and authentic path to environmental conservation."

 

Keynote Lecture by Shri R. C. Mahapatra, General Manager, Jhanjhara Area, ECL:

Invited Keynote Speaker Shri R. C. Mahapatra highlighted the significant initiative of planting 30,000 trees in Rajmahal. He stressed the valuable contribution of tree planting to environmental preservation and emphasized the collective responsibility of everyone in safeguarding the environment. Shri Mahapatra emphasized that meaningful changes can only be achieved through collaborative efforts.

 

Following the Keynote lecture session, a lively and vibrant cultural program was organized. School children, students, and distinguished guests from various institutes and organizations actively participated in the event. The cultural program featured diverse performances, including dance, keyboard playing, singing, recitation of poems/shayari, and shloka recitals. The event concluded on an uplifting note, leaving participants inspired and motivated to actively contribute to global environmental well-being. The shared perspectives from esteemed speakers showcased a commitment to sustainable practices and a collective responsibility for environmental conservation. The Mission LiFE pledge was taken, and the program concluded with the recitation of the National Anthem. Participants captured moments at the Mission LiFE Selfie Point, further commemorating the event.
