Mission LiFE Stall Exhibited by IIT(ISM) EIACP (PC-RP) during the Two-day Mission LiFE Mega Event titled "National Exhibition cum Awareness Programme on Mission LiFE" (held on 09th - 10th Feb, 2024)

Date | 10th February, 2024:

The Two-day Mission LiFE Mega Event titled "National Exhibition cum Awareness Programme on Mission LiFE" was held at India Gate, New Delhi on 09th & 10th February, 2024. The event was inaugurated by Chief Guest: Mrs. Leena Nandan, Secretary, MoEF&CC, Guest of Honor: Mr. Ravi Singh, SG & CEO, WWF-India and Ms. Nameeta Prasad, Joint Secretary, MoEF&CC.  Mrs. Leena Nandan, Secretary, MoEF&CC, in her address said that the youth have a lot of josh, sensitizing them on environmentally conscious behaviour will promote ecological and economic development, both, into the future under their trusteeship.

During this two-day event EIACP Programme Centres across India had set up exhibition stalls in which a gist of the activities carried out by each centre under Mission LiFE and various ecofriendly products prepared by GSDP candidates under various courses were put on display.

The two-day event was mainly focused on school children and the youth, hence various activities were organized and conducted during this two-day Mission LiFE Mega Event in which school students from different Delhi based schools participated. Then two-day event kick-started with Bicycle rally, organized in the inner circle of India Gate to promote the adoption of sustainable lifestyle. Other activities included:

1. A fashion show under the theme "'Eco-conscious' Clothing", in which school students showcased their creativity in designing dresses using eco-friendly materials while spreading a message that clothes can be stylish and environment friendly, both.

2. Nukkad-nataks performances by cultural clubs from various colleges of Delhi University/other universities and even schools on various themes highlighting Mission LiFE.

3. Vibrant cultural show by school children, in which group dance/group songs focusing on earth/conservation of environment were performed.

4. On-the-spot face painting competition and sit-and-draw competition focusing on 7 themes of Mission LiFE were also organized.

5. Models prepared by school students demonstrating their ideas for eco-friendly lifestyle were also exhibited by students of various Delhi based schools.

The objective of this awareness initiative was to foster a deeper comprehension of LiFE's goals and the significance of embracing sustainable practices in evolving environments. It serves as a commemoration of the harmonious coexistence between nature and society, highlighting how both can flourish together.

A comprehensive overview of the stall exhibit by IIT(ISM) EIACP (PC-RP) at the Two-day Mission LiFE Mega Event under the headship of Prof. Anshumali, HOD, Dept. of ESE and Coordinator, EIACP (PC-RP), IIT(ISM) Dhanbad along with EIACP(PC-RP) Team, Mr. Bishwajit Das, Information Officer and Mr. Durga Das Chandra, IT Officer. Here's a breakdown of the specific focus and objectives of the stall exhibit:

Theme: The stall focuses on the theme "Environmental Problems of Mining," shedding light on the environmental challenges associated with mining activities.

Knowledge Products: Various knowledge products such as Quarterly Newsletters, Monographs, Training Manuals on Air, Water, Noise, and Soil parameters along with GSDP Module on Air & Water Pollution and Waste Management courses were also exhibited.

Awareness and Education: The stall aims to raise awareness and educate visitors about environmental issues through the display of publications, training manuals, and reports. The showcased materials provide insights into environmental problems and solutions related to mining and other aspects of sustainability. Reports on "Delineation of Morphometric Characteristics of Small Watersheds in Dhanbad district of Jharkhand State" prepared by the Centre under the guidance of Prof. Anshumali, HOD, Dept. of ESE and Coordinator, EIACP (PC-RP), IIT(ISM) along with MoEF&CC interns under MoEF&CC internship programme were showcased. These reports talk about the shrinking of Rivers due to disappearing tributaries and streams, leading to unpredictable climate and loss of agricultural productivity besides others even disruption of valuable ecosystem services and only by valuing water and recognizing the critical role that rivers play in our water systems, we can help to ensure a sustainable future for our planet and all its inhabitants.

Promotion of Mission LiFE: The stall actively promoted Mission LiFE, a mass awareness campaign focusing on seven themes related to environmental sustainability. Special edition monographs and a compendium of activities and events organized by the Centre on Mission LiFE were showcased to support and raise awareness about this initiative. (i) Special Edition of Monograph on Mission LiFE, published by the Centre to promote and support this mass Mission LiFE, and raise awareness on various problem-solving topics covering several aspects related to the environment and sustainability. This book comprises 25 chapters that are broadly categorized into six themes. It provides comprehensive subject-based articles and their significance associated with the theme under Mission LiFE. Climate change and mitigation, geospatial approaches to delineate the water resources, water resource management concerning water quality, contamination, and management, waste management strategies, biodiversity conservation, and socio-economic prospects are discussed in the given themes. (ii) A compendium of activities, events and mass awareness campaigns organized by the Centre on Mission Lifestyle For Environment (LiFE), to sensitize general masses on the seven themes while understanding that, our actions for today shape the world of tomorrow and pledge to adopt a lifestyle that prioritizes sustainability in every aspect of our individual lives.

Interactive Displays: Posters, standees, Mission LiFE creatives and documentary videos prepared by the centre on various events, activities on environmental subjects/issues and awareness campaigns focusing on Mission LiFE seven themes were displayed to engage visitors and provide visual information about various environmental topics and initiatives. Additionally, Posters featuring pictures of various events carried out by the Centre aligned with the seven themes of Mission LiFE were also prominently exhibited.

Practical Solutions: Practical solutions such as "Kitchen Waste to Composting" and "Matka Plantation Recharge Technique" were highlighted to demonstrate sustainable living practices and their contribution to the goals of Mission LiFE. (i) “Kitchen Waste to Composting” aligns with sustainable living practices by closing the loop on the organic waste cycle. It encourages individuals to think about the life cycle of their waste and how it can be repurposed to benefit the environment, contributing to a more sustainable and circular economy. Kitchen waste composting is a practical and impactful method for reducing waste at the source, promoting sustainability, and contributing to the goals of the "Reduce Waste" theme of the Mission LiFE campaign. (ii)“Matka Plantation Recharge Technique” is a traditional technique used in certain regions to recharge groundwater using clay pots called "matkas" or "matkis." This method is commonly employed in areas facing water scarcity or where the water table has significantly depleted and thus playing a significant role in contributing to the goals of the "Water Saved" theme of the Mission LiFE.

Engagement and Distribution: Mission LiFE cloth bags, t-shirts, calendars, and other materials were exhibited and distributed among visitors to encourage engagement and promote the mission's message of sustainability.

Overall, the stall exhibit aims to inform, educate, and engage visitors on environmental issues, promote sustainable practices, and support the goals of Mission LiFE through a diverse range of knowledge products and interactive displays.
